March 11, 2011 Newsletter

Dear Parents,

We made it through C.M.T.’s!

Here’s what we’ve been up to.

MATH
?    Unit 7 “Patterns In Multiplication” will be continued on Monday. Multiplying by 10s, Using base-ten pieces and the all partials method will be our focus this week.
?    Small group instruction between 9:15- 9:50 a.m. for math.  Please remind your child to see me when they have a concern.
?    Please have your child practice the multiplication facts each night. Every Friday we will have a quiz on the fact of the week.

SCIENCE
?    We are bringing the “Environments” unit to an end. Your child was given a pink study guide that should be in their science folder.  It states the information that will be expected for our test on March 25th. In addition, they have a small, white poster that has a picture of a cube on the front. This cube is to be filled in with information about one of the biomes we discussed in class. The cube is due on March 21st. The cube and test will count as one test grade. We will have some study time during our science period to review the material for the test.

READING
?    Using their knowledge about text structure and text features, students will be constructing a scrapbook in class based on an informational text of their choice. They will be asked to use text features and text structures that are appropriate for their topic.

S.G.I (small group instruction) In our small group instruction, text structure is reinforced with more guidance.

WRITING

?    Students continue to revise and edit writing pieces.
?    Grammar: Pronouns and their antecedents, and capitalizing proper nouns was the area of focus the last couple of weeks.
?    Thank you for reviewing your child’s writing prompt. I’m still missing a couple, so if you have not returned the envelope with your signature, please do so as soon as possible.

As always, thank you for your support parents. Please contact me by phone or email if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Mary Carrubba
